Part 1 Focus!
Instead of trying to multi-task, maintain a focus on only one thing at a time. You can do this by:
- Batching jobs together
- Building time into your calendar
- Reducing distractions
People who focus on one thing at a time are more productive and are less at risk of making a bad decision.
We are not evolved to multi-task. Every time you task-switch you burn up a little bit of your brain's energy store (glycogen). This makes you more vulnerable to making poor quality decisions.
The time taken to switch tasks also adds up. Each time you switch your attention, your brain takes time to find it's place. Over the course of a day, these time delays add up.
